The most extreme pay-per-view of the year, WWE Extreme Rules where all bets are off and rules are meant to be broken is fast approaching the WWE universe, taking place on October 8 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, marking the first time the event would take place in the month of October and on a Saturday night instead of the traditional pay-per-view day, Sunday. A strap match will happen on the show.
So far, we have three matches made official for the match card, however, there has been one particular match that has got the fans talking i.e the unorthodox Karrion Kross competing against the Scottish Warrior Drew McIntyre in a Strap match.

Ever since Kross resurfaced back to the WWE alongside his wife Scarlett Bordeaux, he immediately targeted Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns who at the time were feuding over the Undisputed WWE Universal title, making his looming presence felt over the next weeks and even at the WWE Clash at the Castle event, sitting at ringside to watch their epic encounter and even getting involved in a scuffle with McIntyre.
At the conclusion of the event in the United Kingdom, Kross re-ignited his feud with McIntyre launching yet another series of sneak attacks like before and escaping before Drew had the chance to retaliate. It was announced on the September 23 episode of SmackDown, that Drew McIntyre and Karrion Kross are set to collide at WWE Extreme Rules in a physically tormenting Strap match giving Kross no scope to sneak away and battle like a true in-ring gladiator against the Scottish Warrior with an extreme stipulation.
But before we reach WWE Extreme Rules taking place in the city of Brotherly love, let’s deep dive and take a look at the aspects surrounding a Strap match.

Here is everything you need to know about a Strap match:
- The Strap match, known by various names and its own variations is a wrestling match in which the in-ring competitors are tied to each other through a strap or placed on the opposite ends of a restraint to maintain close physical contact and proximity.
- The Strap used for the match and anything tied to it is considered in-play weapons and completely legal to be used in any way possible by the competitors.
- The most common and easiest way to score the victory is by pinfall, however, another variation requires one wrestler to go around the ring and touch all four corners in quick succession.
- A victory by submission is generally not allowed due to the legality of the use of a strap and potentially be used as a choking device.
- A traditional match of this type generally involves two competitors tied together via a leather strap which is commonly used to attack the opponent.
- Other restraints used for this type of match include a bull rope, belt, steel chain, and one to two-foot leash.
Over the years, WWE has been known to feature various Strap matches and their variations featuring top WWE Superstars. The last time a strap match took place in the company was at WWE Royal Rumble 2020, where The Fiend Bray Wyatt defeated Bryan Danielson (fka Daniel Bryan) to retain the WWE Universal Championship.
