The Indian captain Virat Kohli posts an emotional message on twitter after India bowed out of the T20 World Cup 2021 having finished at no. 3 in the group 2 points table. India needed to be in top 2 to qualify to the semi-finals, but a couple of defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand at the start of the tournament made sure India’s chances of advancing further were minimal.
As New Zealand beat Afghanistan and secured their 4th victory in the group round on Sunday, India got eliminated from the tournament and their last game against Namibia became inconsequential. India, however, were still very clinical in their performance against Namibia last night and finished the tournament with a dominating 9-wicket victory.
Virat Kohli admitted the Indian team fell short of their goal
Addressing the Indian fans on twitter, Virat Kohli admitted that the goal the Indian team had set for themselves in the T20 World Cup wasn’t quite achieved, but he also insisted that the team is gutted about it and nobody is more gutted than the players themselves.
The Indian captain thanked the supporters for backing the team right throughout the tournament and hoped that the team would be at his best the next time they turn up on the ground.

This was Virat Kohli’s last tournament as India’s T20 international captain as well. The 33-year old is looking to reduce his workload by giving up the leadership position in one format of the game. However, with India not having done well in the last few white ball world tournaments, there are question marks over Kohli’s white ball captaincy altogether and not just T20I captaincy.
It remains to be seen how BCCI goes ahead with the team formation and leadership in white ball cricket now with the new head coach Rahul Dravid joining in. The Indian squad for the T20I series against New Zealand is expected to be announced at some point of time this week.
