After disappointing the fans last season, the Rajasthan Royals side has made some handy changes this year IPL as they released their captain Steve Smith following his below-average form in IPL 2020. Following his exit, the side elected Sanju Samson as their lead man, who will be captaining IPL 2021. He already has some leadership experience as he has led the Kerala side in domestic tournaments.
The side began their IPL 2021 campaign today, with their first match against Punjab Kings in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. This match can also be classified as the battle amongst the wicket-keeper captains as Samson and Rahul both handle the wicket-keeping department. However, so far, KL Rahul has the lead following his mind-blowing innings of 91 runs from just 50 balls, hitting seven fours and five sixes.
Sanju Samson does something which we do in street cricket
At the beginning of the match, a unique thing happened during the toss time, which might not have caught the eye. Sanju Samson has been leading a side in IPL for the first time. After the match referee flipped the coin and landed on the ground, Sanju Samson quietly took the coin and placed it in his pocket. From the memory’s perspective, he might have done it as a captain in a league like IPL is a dream come actual moment. You can watch the video here:
The side has fared decently so far in the first innings as master class innings from Rahul and Hooda has kept the target of 222 runs on the board for Samson’s Pink Army. However, the debutant Chetan Sakariya has had a dream start to his IPL career as he bagged three wickets which even includes the main man KL Rahul. The fans would be hoping to see their side win under Sanju Samson’s leadership as he has the qualities to take his side over the victory line.
