Ahead of the IPL auctions 2021, Punjab Kings released Jimmy Neesham following his poor returns in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. In 5 matches, he could only score 19 runs at an average of 9.50. With the bowl, he could only take 2 wickets at an economy of 9.86.
However, after watching his heroics in the recent second T20I between Australia and New Zealand, the franchise would have been gutted on their decision to let him go. The southpaw played a fabulous knock of 45 runs off just 16 balls to help New Zealand win the game and take the 2-0 lead in the series.
After Guptill had set the tone for a huge total in the first innings of the second T20I, Jimmy Neesham was sent ahead of Glenn Phillips and Conway to up the scoring rate. Neesham started his innings on a blistering note, hitting three sixes off his first three deliveries he faced. He went onto hit 6 sixes en-route to his unbeaten 45.
He then bowled a crucial final over of the second innings. Australia needed 15 runs off the last over to win the game. Neesham held his nerves and accounted for the wickets of both the set batsmen in Marcus Stoinis and Daniel Sams to hand New Zealand victory by 5 runs.
Following Neesham’s exceptional performance, Wasim Jaffer has now come up with a hilarious post on his Twitter handle. The batting coach of Kings XI Punjab has posted a hilarious Tweet, leaving the fans in splits.
The official account of Blackcaps posted a video in which Neesham could be seen hitting a shot, asking the fans to name the shot. Reacting to the post, Jaffer shared a meme, which read, “That moment when you realize your ex just got hotter.”
Nevertheless, Mumbai Indians would be happy to witness Neesham’s performance in the second T20I. MI bought the services of New Zealand’s all-rounder in the IPL 2021 Auctions for INR 75 Lakhs.
