Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captain Virat Kohli is currently at the helm of the leaderboard of the batsmen with the most runs in the history of the Indian Premier League. The right-handed batsman has amassed over 6,000 runs while donning the jersey of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the Indian Premier League.
Kohli is the only batsman to have scored more than 900 runs in a single edition of the Indian Premier League. He accomplished that feat while playing in the 2016 edition of the tournament and helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore qualify for the summit clash. Unfortunately, the Royal Challengers Bangalore lost in the IPL 2016 Final against the Sunrisers Hyderabad team.
Virat Kohli has another unique IPL record to his name
While the RCB skipper is the only one to have amassed more than 900 runs in one IPL season, he is also the only batsman who has scored more than 900 runs against one IPL team. That team is the Delhi Capitals. Interestingly, it is the home franchise of Virat Kohli, but in the Under-19 draft of 2008, Delhi preferred Pradeep Sangwan over Kohli.
The right-handed batsman joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore and made sure that his home franchise paid for not signing him at the inaugural Under 19 draft of the Indian Premier League. Kohli has so far scored 905 runs against the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Interestingly, he has also scored 895 runs against the Chennai Super Kings. So now, in IPL 2021, Kohli has a chance to become the first batsman to score 1,000 runs against one IPL team.
Can the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain accomplish the big record?
Virat Kohli’s team Royal Challengers Bangalore will play against the Chennai Super Kings in the second phase of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League on September 24 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. This venue is known for high-scoring matches. Kohli will have to score 105 runs against CSK to reach the milestone.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore are scheduled to play against the Delhi Capitals on October 8 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. If Virat scores 95 runs in the match, then he can complete 1,000 runs against the team. It will be exciting to see if Virat can make the record.
