USA-W vs CN-W: The quarter-final stage witnessed some of the best and most thrilling knock-out matches against the participating nations. After gallantry efforts, the USA and Canada made their way into the Semi-Finals and will trade tackles on August 2.
In their previous game, USA Women were involved in a dramatic draw against Netherlands Women. Vivianne Miedema’s early goal for the Netherlands provided her side with the lead, however, it was met with two back-to-back goals by the USA, courtesy of Samantha Mewis & Lynn Williams.
Miedema shined yet again as she completed her brace with an equalizer to make it 2-2. There were no more goals here on and after extra time, the match went in Penalties. In that, the USA emerged victorious by a 6-4 margin.
Canada Women on the other hand were involved in a 0-0, disappointing stalemate against Brazil Women. However, the extra time being in action couldn’t help the two sides with any luck at the goal. In the end, the match was forced into Penalties. The Canadian shot-stopper was the star of the show as they progressed to the Semi-Final with a 4-3 margin.
