Twitter trolls Barcelona mercilessly as they conceded eight goals after 74 years

In a rare spectacle, Barcelona was not just being eliminated from the Champions League quarter-finals but they were literally obliterated by the might of the formidable Bavarians as Bayern Munich thrashed the Catalans by a staggering margin of 8-2.

The German champions made their intentions very clear right since the word go as within just three minutes of the kick-off, they drew first blood. Perisic whipped in a peach of delivery for Muller, who took his time and drilled it into the bottom left corner of the net.

This was followed by another bizarre incident at another end as Alaba couldn’t keep his slice of the ball right and steered Jordi Alba’s pass into the net without any pressure on him, thereby restoring parity for the Catalans.

This was the only piece of luck that the Spanish giants would taste throughout the match as Bayern came back strongly in very quick succession. Serge Gnabry exploited a howler from Sergi Roberto and Semedo and fed Perisic with acres of free space ahead of him. The Croatian striker drilled the ball into the net with Ter Stegen flapping his feet in vain.

Bayern pushed the game beyond all recognition for Barca as Gnabry added an emphatic third, thanks to some brilliant presence of mind from Goretzka, who flicked in the corner in the stride of the German midfielder and it flew into the net like a cannonball.

A couple of minutes later, it was Muller who doubled his tally as he rekindled the horrendous déjà-vu of Brazil versus Germany in the 2014 World Cup, making the scoreline 4-1 in favour of Bayern.

After the restart, a phenomenal strike from Suarez spiked hopes of Barcelona resurgence but it was snuffed out in no time as Joshua Kimmich added a sensational fifth to Bayern’s kitty. Alphonso Davies pulled off an insane dribble past Semedo and Pique to nudge in a brilliant ball that was slammed into the back of the net by Joshua Kimmich who made a searing run into the penalty box.

After 82 minutes of waiting, Lewandowski finally opened his account for the night as Coutinho dribbled past a couple of Barcelona defenders to whip in a screamer that was noggined home emphatically by the Polish marksman, bringing him a goal closer to Ronaldo’s 2014 Champion League record.

The Barcelona loanee indulged himself in a second goal as this time he was the scorer himself with an ecstatic shimmy down the pitch and a substantial-finish to make it 7-2. Coutinho added a second as he headed from point-blank range from a Tolisso header to slam the final nail in the Spanish dreams. Crazy scenes sparked at Lisbon as Messi stood dejected and forlorn along the lines while Bayern Munich sang and danced and revelled in hellish celebrations for the night.
