Even before Royal Challengers Bangalore resumed their second phase of the tournament, their captain, Virat Kohli dropped a surprise by confessing that he will be renouncing Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captaincy after IPL 2021.
In a tweet through RCB’s official handle, he quoted, “This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me.”

Kohli’s saga of dropping captaincy
He recently announced his stepping down from the mantle of the Indian T20 cricket team as well after the 2021 T20 World Cup.
It seems that the Indian captain is taking quite a few bold decisions in a crucial juncture of his career.
Virat Kohli carved an incredible legacy as a RCB captain
Kohli has led RCB for a staggering eight seasons and has belted out one masterclass after the other. In 2016 he transcended all the preceding batting records as he posted scintillating statistics of 973 runs.
It has been a while since Kohli has whipped out one of those blistering centuries of his and it is quite a serious topic of discussion in the cricketing roster whether all these decisions are to focus on his batting?
Royal Challengers Bangalore will be resuming their phase 2 journey with a clash against Kolkata Knight Riders, a team that has failed to match RCB’s brilliance since 2020.
Twitter was stunned to witness Kohli drop another captaincy in a span of three days. They left the micro-blogging site filled with concerns about Kohli’s sudden drop of captaincy.
Kohli also reaffirms his commitment to RCB, says he'll continue playing for the franchise till he retires.

Virat Kohli stepping down as RCB captain after this tournament.
Genuinely, quite sad – his tie with that team is one of the tightest in T20. It's a loss to the game.
Bang up for him winning it this year.#IPL2021
