Shardul Thakur has been drafted into India’s main T20 World Cup squad on the place of Axar Patel as the final squad submission was released by BCCI earlier today.
Axar was in good form in the IPL and that’s why it’s a bit of a surprise that he has been moved to the reserves from the main squad, but a lot of it has been done because of the other resources that India already has in the squad.
Shardul Thakur was the only seam bowling all-round option India had in the reserves
Shardul Thakur has been picked because the Indian team management is not sure about the bowling of Hardik Pandya. Hardik didn’t bowl a single over in the second leg of the IPL and the only other genuine seam bowling all-round option that India had in the reserves was Shardul.
And Shardul Thakur has been doing really well with the ball for his IPL team CSK in the second leg of the IPL in the UAE. He has been outfoxing a lot of players with his variations while bowling the tough overs in the innings.
As far as Axar is concerned, the reason he might have been put into reserves despite his good form is that Ravindra Jadeja
Twitter has reacted as usual since the news broke out of Axar’s replacement with Shardul. Some people have agreed to it and some not, but the majority believe while Shardul deserved to be picked, he should not have been picked for Axar. He probably should have been picked for someone else.
