Prithvi Shaw misses out from the Indian squad for the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (27th December) announced the squad for the ODI and the T20I series against Sri Lanka that will be played in January next year. Some bold decisions were taken as Shikhar Dhawan was dropped from the 50-over format whereas seniors Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli were rested from the T20Is.

Few notables were also missing from the squad including Prithvi Shaw, who was ignored yet another time. The right-hander last represented India in July 2021 when India had toured Sri Lanka with a second-string side for white-ball series.

Since then he has been on the sidelines despite performing well and giving his IPL and domestic sides a rollicking start batting at the top of the order. In the IPL 2022, he was at his aggressive best as he scored 283 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 152.97. He had a terrific Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 332 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 181.42.

Despite being a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and IPL, Shaw is continuously failing to make cut into the Indian side. It was expected that he would make into at least one of the squads for the Sri Lanka series. But it wasn’t the case as he yet again didn’t feature in the team.
