India and New Zealand are currently involved in a T20I game. The first game was a washout and hence, there were expectations from the second encounter. Sanju Samson was expected to be a part of the XI. However, he did not get a chance. On that note, here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Sanju Samson is not named in India playing 11 for the 2nd T20I against New Zealand.
Sanju Samson not named in India playing 11 for the 2nd T20I against New Zealand
It was expected that Sanju Samson would feature in the India XI against New Zealand. In fact, it was on the expected lines that Samson would be a permanent fixture in the Indian XI, at least, in the T20I squad. He was being groomed as a finisher and the player had done well in a few matches.
Yet, Sanju missed out on the chance in the playing XI. The Kerala batter is someone who can do well against various types of bowling. This would help India in all the conditions. Moreover, he has enough experience in the T20 format and it is the right time to rely on him. While the reason for not including him in the playing XI is not yet clearly known, fans were upset with the way he has been treated so far.
Twitter reacts to India’s selection
India was expected to adopt a different approach to team selection, especially after its failure in the 2022 T20 World Cup semis. However, India yet again has adopted a similar squad. While Sanju Samson was ignored, so was Umran Malik. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar have got a chance despite the player not doing exactly well in recent months. There was frustration when it came to Sanju Samson’s non-selection. Here is how Twitter reacted:
It is big 2022 after another ICC tournament debacle but India are still playing with 5 top 3 Batters instead of giving chance to someone like Sanju and they're still playing Bhuvi instead of giving chances to Umran Malik.
"Reset and Restart" only seems to happen in captions.

That's how things work for Sanju Samson since 2014, the most unfairly treated player ever in Indian cricket history#SanjuSamson pic.twitter.com/SRCTR3PBsR

No Sanju Samson even in a squad without main seniors. This is turning frustrating @BCCI https://t.co/185x0K8CvG

I laugh at that squad when players like Sanju Samson and Shubmab Gill are on the bench and some middle order batter is promoted to the opening spot. It's the same "stars over performers" approach that costed India T20WC and they haven't learnt it again.#INDvsNZ#crickettwitter
