“Thakur comes to the plan as well but he just married yesterday,” Rohit Sharma says India will use Ahmedabad Test as a preparation for the WTC final if they win in Indore

If India wins the Indore Test, they will qualify for the WTC Final.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said that they will use Ahmedabad Test against Australia as a preparation for the WTC final if they win the second Test in Indore. He said that Shardul Thakur might come into the plan but cheekily added that he got married recently.

India on the verge of qualifying for the WTC Final

Indian Cricket Team is leaving no stone unturned to make their case strong to play the final of the World Test Championship. Their thumping innings and 132 runs win in the first Test and 6 wickets win in Delhi Test against Australia have put them close to the final of the Test Championship.

It’s fair to say that with the win in the second Test against Australia, they have put one step into the final of the Test Championship. All they need to do is that they need to win at least one of the remaining two games against Australia.

However, even if they didn’t win the last two games they still have the chance to qualify. But they would be wanting some results to go in their favour. They would want New Zealand to beat Sri Lanka in at least one game and if that happens they are through even if they lose the last two games.

They are placed second on the points table of WTC 2023 with 10 wins from 16 games and have 123 points to their name with a win percentage of 64.06%. Their qualification is now very much in their hands as they need just one win to play the final.

If they manage a win in the Indore Test against Australia, which is slated to take place from 1st to 5th March, they will become the first team to qualify for the World Test Championship Final.

The final of the World Test Championship is slated to take place from June 7 to 11 at the Oval with a reserve day in place (12 June). Skipper Rohit spoke about the possibility of using the last Test against Australia as a preparation for that.

Speaking to reporters, he said: “There is the possibility of using the Ahmedabad Test as a preparation for the WTC final if we get the result we needed in Indore – Thakur comes to the plan as well but he just married yesterday (big smile) but surely we might think of doing different in next Test”.

Notably, India plays the combination of four fast bowlers in overseas conditions with Shardul Thakur acting as an all-rounder.
