Training session of Pakistan cricket team cancelled amid growing political tension and protests in Sri Lanka

Pakistan cricket team has already reached Sri Lanka, but hasn't started their training yet

Amid growing political tension in Sri Lanka, the training session of the touring Pakistan cricket team, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, has been cancelled and the Pakistan team will now stay put in their hotel today.

The Sri Lankan government had anticipated a protest on Friday night itself and had imposed a curfew in various regions, but the protestors still came out in large numbers earlier today and breaking all barricades, they stormed into the residence of president Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

There have been consistent demands from the Sri Lankan public for the last two months for the Sri Lankan president to vacate his post, as the country has declared bankruptcy and the public has to face various day-to-day problems related to fuel, electricity etc.

However, even in such a scenario, the Australian cricket team has toured Sri Lanka and they have not just completed the T20I and ODI series, they are now on the verge of completing the tour itself, as the second test match, which is also the last match of the tour, is currently taking place in Galle.

During the time the Australian team was touring, it seemed as if the political tensions had pacified down a little bit and the country was somehow trying to get on the path to recovery, but as the Australian tour is coming to its conclusion, the protestors have turned aggressive against the president Gotabaya Rajapaksa again.

There might be clouds of uncertainty over Sri Lanka tour of Pakistan cricket team

The tour of Pakistani cricket team is on for now, but if the situation turns worse, there might be clouds of uncertainty over the tour. There are no hints yet from either of the two cricket boards that the tour could be postponed or abandoned.

The media manager of the Pakistani cricket team has been quoted as saying by Geo News that only the training session has been cancelled for now because of the curfew.

Abhishek

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
