“Virat Kohli got captaincy on a platter” – Twitter reacts as Virat Kohli said that MS Dhoni chose him as a captain

Virat Kohli, the new captain of the Indian cricket team, has recently said that the transition from MS Dhoni to him was smooth. The cricketer from Delhi said the handoff was easy since Dhoni had chosen him to take over.

While Kohli was the national team’s deputy captain, he said he had a strong working relationship with the previous captain. The 34-year-old also said he often offered Dhoni his advice and suggestions during games.

When Dhoni stepped down from red-ball cricket in 2014, Virat Kohli was named captain of India’s Test squad. After being given the reins in the limited-overs forms, he was promoted as captain for all formats in 2017.

After India’s disappointing performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup group stage, Kohli decided to stand down as captain of the T20I team. After that year, he lost his position as ODI captain. In January 2022, the great batter announced his resignation as India’s Test captain.

Virat Kohli talks about MS Dhoni

Virat Kohli went on to say that MS Dhoni has been a major reason for the team’s success over the years, and that he has always held him in the highest esteem.

The skipper said that his friendship with MS Dhoni had not altered after his promotion. In addition, Kohli assured the World Cup-winning captain that he would tell him straight out if he disagreed with any of the latter’s proposals.

Virat Kohli’s strong leadership record belies the fact that he was heavily criticized for leaving the position without an ICC title. Throughout the course of 213 games across all forms, he guided India to 135 victories.

Virat Kohli (in RCB Podcast) saidΒ “MS Dhoni chose me as a captain, I was his Vice-captain since the age of 23, that build a huge respect between us”.
