2 bold decisions Mumbai Indians should take in IPL 2022

Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 12 runs on Wednesday, thus making it a five-match losing streak for the five-time champions in IPL 2022. MI has been adopting a strange tactic while deciding their playing XI and most importantly, a few of their core members are failing with their responsibilities. Mumbai Indians will have to make a few tough decisions to get their campaign back on track. The team next faces the Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday. In this article, we take a look at two bold decisions Mumbai Indians should take in IPL 2022 to get back to winning ways.

1) Drop Kieron Pollard and replace him with Tim David

Kieron Pollard is one of the retained players for MI before IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions. However, the West Indian has been off-colour, so far. He has managed to score only 57 runs in five games at a disappointing strike rate over just 120. Considering this inconsistency has been there in recent seasons, MI could take a bold call.

Tim David was a big-money signing at the auctions but he was dropped after just two games. Considering he is a young cricketer with immense potential, MI could replace the experienced West Indian with Tim. This way, MI can also allow the cricketer to develop his game and provide better returns in the coming seasons. MI can also try to make use of the player’s off-spin, since the franchise has been using only one spinner in five games till now.

2) Tilak Varma to open and Rohit Sharma in the middle-order

Moving Rohit Sharma to the middle-order is one of the bold decisions Mumbai Indians should take in IPL 2022 to get back to winning ways. It is not sure if Rohit would click there but since he is anyways not doing well as an opener, the franchise could try experimenting some new ideas.

Ishan Kishan is feeling the pressure whenever Rohit is consuming the deliveries or if he gets out early. With Tilak Varma in good form and opening being his natural position, MI can pair up the youngsters at the top. Rohit is better against pacers than spinners and he could try out a role in the death overs. Since MI’s campaign is almost over, they could try out a few ideas which might help them in future campaigns.
