In a disappointing development for all pro wrestling fans, a popular Superstar has decided to call it a day on his career after his AEW stint ends. The Superstar is none other than Japan’s Kota Ibushi.

He competed against Naomichi Marufuji at NOAH ‘The New Year’ 2024, and during the brutal match, Ibushi injured his leg and ankles severely. Due to that, the 41-year-old wrestler has decided to retire for real after his AEW run ends.

A fan posted a tweet on social media, urging the fans not to give up on Kota Ibushi and added that he would return to the pro wrestling world one day. Replying to him, the Japanese wrestler wrote on X:

“Thank you. I will never betray anyone who follows me. But retirement is real. When AEW ends, it will end in Japan,” he tweeted.

Many Japanese wrestling fans were disappointed to see the message from Kota. He is one of the most popular wrestlers in the world, and most of his followers were not ready to see him announce his retirement so soon.

Will Kota Ibushi win a championship in AEW before retirement?

Ibushi has made a name for himself with his extraordinary wrestling matches. He has won championships in multiple promotions and received awards from reputed pro wrestling publications for his fine work. However, he has never held a championship in AEW.

The head of AEW, Tony Khan must have seen the message by Kota Ibushi, and he would have even started planning some exciting storylines for the Japanese wrestler’s final run in the company.

AEW has many championships on offer. It will be interesting to see if the company decides to put one of its titles on Ibushi before the 41-year-old star calls it a day on his pro wrestling career forever and for real.
