“Both Dhoni and Rohit provide security to players,” Parthiv Patel shares his experience of playing for MI and CSK

Parthiv Patel has been a part of the title winning team of Mumbai Indians

The former Indian wicketkeeper batsman Parthiv Patel reckons the reason why Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni have proven to be such successful T20 captains is because they give the players a lot of security about their places in the side.

According to Parthiv, he has seen the leadership styles of both Dhoni and Rohit from close quarters because he has played for both Mumbai and CSK and one thing that is common beween them is they don’t like to chop and change much unless it’s absolutely necessary to do so.

It’s interesting for Parthiv Patel to say that because he has not just played for Mumbai and CSK, but he has also played for RCB under the captaincy of Virat Kohli for a couple of years. However, he didn’t mention Kohli while talking about the security being given to the players.

When Kohli was the captain of India in limited-over cricket, one criticism that he always used to get from the media and from the fans was that he had that tendency to make changes in the playing XI at the first possible chance and because of that, India was unable to find a settled middle order.

However, since the time the new Indian management has taken charge, the chopping and changing hasn’t happened as frequently as it used to happen in the past. Whoever has got opportunity has got it for a run of games before being dropped.

If a player is backed, he automatically gets confidence: Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel, while having a conversation with Cricbuzz, insisted that a player automatically gets confidence when the team management backs him for a run of games rather than dropping him for one or two failures.

Even the young Indian opening batsman Ishan Kishan recently said that he and the other young players within the group have been clearly told by the new Indian management that they won’t be dropped after one or two failures and they should just go out there and express themselves without worrying about failures.

India, so far, has not lost a single game in white ball cricket since Rohit Sharma has been appointed the full time white ball captain of India. They are on a winning streak of 8 games in a row.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
