5 records that are still unbroken even after more than a decade in IPL history

The Indian Premier League has revolutionized the game ever since its inception. At the same time, the league has also evolved to provide the best possible form of entertainment to the viewers. Of course, amidst all this, the tournament has become a solid platform for players to showcase their skills. However, although the tournament is in its 15th season, a few records set around a decade ago are yet to be toppled. On that note, in this article, we take a look at five records that are still unbroken even after more than a decade in IPL.

1) The record for most runs in a single IPL for Mumbai Indians – 2010

Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise in the history of the league. Sachin Tendulkar was the face of the franchise and he still is an important part of the setup.

The first Indian to win the Orange Cap, Sachin scored 618 runs in IPL 2010 to win the honor. Even now, this happens to be the most runs scored in a single season by a Mumbai Indians player. In fact, the second position is also held by Sachin. It is interesting because MI has won five trophies since then.

2) Centurion for Kolkata Knight Riders – 2008

The first team to have a centurion in IPL history is KKR. Brendon McCullum smashed a hundred in the first game of IPL. However, interestingly, KKR has not had a single centurion since then in the competition.

Dinesh Karthik came closest to the record when he remained not out at 97(50) against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2019. KKR has won two trophies and also has had its players achieving various other batting records such as winning the Orange Cap since then. However, there is yet to be a cricketer to hit a hundred for them since 2008.

3) Chris Gayle’s one IPL season with 59 sixes – 2012

Chris Gayle‘s record of hitting 59 sixes in a single IPL campaign is one of the records that are still unbroken even after more than a decade in IPL. 2012 was the best year for Chris Gayle in IPL history. He scored 733 runs in that campaign, which also included 59 sixes from his blade. This happens to be the most number of sixes scored by a player in a single season.

Andre Russell came close to toppling it in 2019. He scored 52 sixes and fell short eventually. Despite most other batting records getting toppled, this feat held by Gayle is still unbroken.

4) The same player to take two hattricks in the same season – 2009

So far, there have been 21 hattricks taken in the history of IPL. However, only on one occasion, the same player took two hattricks in one edition.

This happened way back in 2009 and the player who achieved it was Yuvraj Singh. While he first did it against Royal Challengers Bangalore, a few weeks later, Yuvi repeated the feat against Deccan Chargers.

5) An overseas uncapped player winning the Orange Cap – 2008

An uncapped overseas cricketer winning the Orange Cap is also one of the records that are still unbroken even after more than a decade in IPL. One of the biggest surprises of IPL 2008 was Shaun Marsh winning the Orange Cap.

An uncapped cricketer then, the southpaw scored 618 runs in 11 games that season. Since then, no other uncapped foreigner has won the Orange Cap. In fact, no other complete uncapped player has done it so far. Ruturaj Gaikwad won it in IPL 2021 but by the time the UAE phase started, he was a capped cricketer.
