In the past few weeks, there have been a lot of discussions about runout at the non-striker’s end. This started when India’s Deepti Sharma executed the runout against England a few weeks ago. Since then, many cricketers have expressed their opinion about this form of dismissal. Especially, the English cricketers have been vocal about not using it. On the back of this, R Ashwin spoke about the ongoing debate. Here, we take a look as R Ashwin takes a subtle dig at his Rajasthan Royals teammate Jos Buttler and others about runout at the non-striker’s end.

R Ashwin takes a dig at Jos Buttler and co.

A few years ago, R Ashwin and Jos Buttler were involved in a controversy when Ashwin took Buttler’s wicket in the form. There were a lot of debates and English cricketers were against it. However, Ashwin rightly stood to his act as if it was a legitimate form of dismissal.

In recent weeks, many cricketers are expressing that they will not be using runout at the non-striker’s end. The likes of Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, and Ben Stokes are all in the same agreement. R Ashwin reacted to the same and it involved a dig at them. He said, “It’s good to know that some players are coming in media & saying they won’t do run-out at non-striker end so as a cricketer, I will use it to my advantage.”

India and England could face in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup

Meanwhile, it is likely that India and England could face in the semis of the ongoing T20 WC. If India wins over Zimbabwe and if England manages to win the final encounter, both squads will slot in at the first and second spots of their respective groups.

It will be a spicy contest, not only for on-field reasons but also due to the controversy around the runout at the non-striker’s end. It will be interesting to see if any Indian cricketer tries it.
