Rohit Sharma was the star on Day 3 of the 4th Test in the ongoing series between India and England at the Oval. The Mumbai cricketer got to his first overseas Test century and finally got the monkey off his back. Amidst this, an old tweet from the player’s social media account has gone viral. We talk about it in this article.

Rohit Sharma’s first overseas Test century

Trailing by 99 runs, India had its task cut out in the second innings of the ongoing game. The openers, though, played cautiously and helped India erase the lead without taking too many bruises. It was Rohit Sharma’s class at the pitch which dominated the proceedings for the most part of Day 3.

Till now, Rohit had not got a century in Test cricket away from home. For a player of his calibre, this was actually an unwanted record. At the Lord’s, he came close but got out after making 83 runs. However, at the Oval, the Mumbai player ensured that he got to the 100-mark. He put on brilliant partnerships with KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara

on Day 3. Rohit also hit a six to get to his century, which showed the confidence with which he was batting. After making 127 runs, he got out to Ollie Robinson‘s bowling.

An old tweet by the ‘Hitman’ goes viral

It is not just a recent wanting for Rohit to get to an overseas Test century. When he started out in the red-ball format, many questioned his abilities. After he proved it at home, people began doubting if he could bat long away from home. In recent months, he has proved that as well. It is just that this century had brought validation to the effort that he has put.

“The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do” is what Rohit wrote in his tweet in 2016. This is very much in context to what transpired on Day 3 of the Oval Test. Hence, the tweet has picked up steam and is going viral.
