‘Surely, More Wonderful Things Will Come’-Rahul Tripathi Expresses His Feelings After Earning His First India Call-Up Against Ireland

After receiving his first call-up to the Indian team for the next series in Ireland, the Indian batter Rahul Tripathi claimed that it was only the beginning of many good things to come. On missing out on joining the team for the current T20I series against South Africa, the 31-year-old said he thought he would ultimately get his opportunity.

Tripathi described it as a “dream come true,” explaining that the goal of any cricket player, from the time they first pick up a bat or ball, is to one day play for the national team of their country. He acknowledged that it was a wonderful possibility for him and said that he intended to make the most of this chance. “Not only am I really content, but more significantly, it represents the realization of a lifelong goal for me. When you pick up a cricket bat for the first time, your number one goal should be to play for your nation,” stated the Indian batsman.

For the sake of my nation, I have to come out on top in this match: Rahul Tripathi

Beginning on June 26, India will be in Ireland for a Twenty20 International (T20I) series that will consist of two matches. These matches will be contested in Dublin. Tripathi also had a great appearance in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL), amassing 413 runs in 14 innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad with an average of 37.55 and a strike rate of 158.24. “It goes without saying that being able to represent my nation is the greatest accomplishment of my life. Surely, more wonderful things are to come, and perhaps, there will be days when I can win games for my country. I knew that if I continued to perform, I would be given the chance. I wasn’t very disappointed (that I wasn’t selected for the India side for the Twenty20 International series against South Africa),” he went on to say.

Since his maiden appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2017 for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), Tripathi has been one of the most recognizable faces in the Indian Twenty20 circuit. He scored 391 runs in his first season, which helped the side get to their lone final in the league. In the most recent two seasons of the Indian Premier League, he amassed 810 runs while maintaining a strong strike rate of close to 150 and averaging over 31 runs per game.

“I have always looked at the match that I am playing and the team that I am representing, how I can make the team, and how I can perform to the best of my abilities. If I want to do right by my nation, I have to win matches,” stated the Maharashtra batter.
