Both the sides bagged five points each in their group stage games, which were enough to see Spain top Group C, while the Ivory Coast finished second in Group D.
In their last group stage encounter, Spain was up against Argentina. The first half wasn’t eventful and was a rather silent one, with both the teams at nil-nil. As the match progressed, Spain’s Mikel Merino scored a beautiful goal in the 66th minute to keep Spain on top of things.
However, Argentina’s Tomas Belmonte evened the score out to 1-1 with his scorcher in the 87th minute. The match ended in a draw with points being shared.
Ivory Coast was too involved in a 1-1 draw in their final group stage game against Germany. After a disappointing first half, Ivory Coast got a goal on the board courtesy of Benjamin Henrichs’ own goal. However, minutes later, Germany’s Eduard Loewen scored to make it 1-1.
It’ll be an exciting encounter with Spain emerging as the favorite to upset Ivory Coast.
