“So finally, Shanka rewarded for his superb performance against India” – Twitter reacts as Dasun Shanaka replaces Kane Williamson in Gujarat Titans for IPL 2023

Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka hogged the limelight today after he was duly rewarded with an opportunity to represent Gujarat Titans in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League.

Eyebrows were raised when the Sri Lankan international went unsold at the IPL 2023 mini-auction held in Kochi in late December. However, he failed to attract the bidders at the auction.

The Sri Lanka captain had a base price of INR 50 lakh to his name. Unfortunately, he didn’t receive interest from any of the franchises. Needless to say, he breathed a sigh of relief after he learnt that he will be part of GT’s plans in the ongoing season.

During the game between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, Kane Williamson sustained a right knee injury at the boundary rope while trying to stop the ball from going for a six.

After sustaining the injury, he looked in total discomfort as he was carried by the medical staff. Later on, it was confirmed that Kane Williamson will no longer be a part of the rest of the IPL.

Kane Williamson left a void in the GT’s line-up and his absence turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Dasun Shanaka as the latter gets a golden opportunity to prove his worth for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023.
