WWE may be sports entertainment for sure but then with pro wrestling involved in the mix, we have seen things that cannot be explained and more importantly, the injuries are mostly real. From Big E’s neck snap to Owen Hart’s death, life in the ring is never easy. Like the way injuries can happen due to accidents, similarly it can also happen due to some wrestler in the ring botching their move. When we talk about the latter category, one of the big names that come in the mind is that of Goldberg.
On December 19. 1999, Goldberg inflicted a serious concussion on Bret Hitman Hart. It was during the event of WCW Starrcade. Though a few injuries and concussions can be fixed, a few remain for life and Hart had to hang his wrestling boots the following year after the concussion reached dizzying heights literally.
Speaking on Chris Jericho’s ‘Talk is Jericho’, Goldberg revealed that it was unintentional and he had already apologised too many times to Hart. It goes without a saying that when entertainment is followed by tragedy and someone is directly responsible for that, someone like Goldberg, a pro-wrestling legend, the compunction is extremely heavy.
Here is what Goldberg had to say about Bret Hart’s concussion
Goldberg said, “There was absolutely no malicious intent whatsoever. None. Zero. So, does it bother me? Yeah, I’ll take it to my grave. But, also, I’ve gotta say, man, and I’m at a turning point, I’m done saying I’m sorry. I’ve said it a million times and I’m not gonna continue to tear myself down. I’m done. I’ve said I’m sorry. If he can’t accept my apology, it is what it is. You’ve gotta move on, and I’ve moved on.”
Goldberg also promised that he has said sorry enough times and from hereon, it is only going to be wrestling that he talks about. If anyone feels any different it is not on him. He has lived a full life in the ring and now plans to continue to do so outside it as well.
