The game between the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings on Monday was one hell of a match. It was filled with excitement, thrill, drama and emotions. The RR fans must have surely undergone a heartbreak as Sanju Samson failed to carry the team over the line.
Throughout the entire innings, the skipper Sanju Samson showcased in-class mastery with his batting. RR had to reach the massive target of 222 put forth by the Punjab Kings. Samson kept his poise till the end with an individual score of 119 off just 63 balls.
Although he became the first captain to score a ton on his debut in captaincy, yet he couldn’t carry his team to a victory. The Punjab Kings snapped the win with a mere margin of 4 runs. It was all possible because of Arshdeep Singh’s seam bowling. Until the last over, he kept his calm and gave no room to inform Samson, leading his team to victory.
RR formed a new opening pair of Ben Strokes and Manan Vohra. However, they couldn’t stand long in the crease and got out at a teetering score of 25/2. At that point, Samson came in and took the responsibility on his shoulders. He delivered an in-class performance, with high batting spirit. He nearly took his team towards a happy ending until the final moment.
Running out of support from the other hand, Samson failed to clinch the victory. All the cricketing fans loved how the young ladled his team with an one-man show. He stood stiff in the crease like a lone wolf and aimed for the best. Even though he failed to achieve the point for his team, yet his efforts are getting highly appreciated.
What did the head coach Kumar Sangakkara say about Sanju Samson’s innings?
Talking about the young lad’s talent, the head coach of RR, Kumar Sangakkara remarked:
“I think Sanju backed himself to get the job done and he nearly did. We can always talk about a missed single here or there but the crucial thing for me is the players’ belief in attitude and commitment and they know what their strengths are. And Sanju took it upon himself to finish that game and he just fell a few yards short. That happens, but the next time I’ll believe he’ll hit it that 10 yards further to win us the game.”
