Rohit Sharma becomes fastest captain ever to win 50 international matches, reaches the milestone in just 62 games

Rohit Sharma yesterday also became the first Indian captain to beat South Africa in a T20I series in India

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma yesterday became the fastest captain in the history of the game to complete a tally of 50 wins across all three formats.

Rohit Sharma has captained India in a total of 62 games so far and India has won 50 out of those 62 games, which is a phenomenal record for any captain. Rohit has captained India in T20 internationals the most number of times so far, as 44 out of the 62 games where he has captained have been T20Is.

Under Rohit’s captaincy, India has won 35 out of 44 T20Is, while in the One Day Internationals (ODIs), Rohit has won 13 games as captain and has lost just 3. As far as the test matches are concerned, Rohit has captained India in just one test series against Sri Lanka and India won that series by 2-0.

Yesterday, by winning the T20I series against South Africa, Rohit created another record, as no other Indian captain before him was able to beat South Africa in a T20I series in India. India had won a T20I series against South Africa in South Africa in 2018, but it was under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.

Rohit Sharma needs to add an ICC title to his captaincy CV

While the captaincy numbers of Rohit Sharma are phenomenal, what’s lacking from his CV at the moment is an ICC trophy. He has won an Asia Cup as captain already in 2018, but a World Cup title will put him in the category of great international captains.

Rohit will be captaining India in an ICC tournament for the first time later this month when he will walk out for the toss in the T20 World Cup game against Pakistan at MCG on the 23rd of October. India would want to win the T20 World Cup this time around with a change in leadership, as the last time they won this tournament was way back in 2007.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
