Remember the name: Dinesh Karthik feels KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy might be key for India in WT20

Dinesh Karthik believes mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy will make an impact in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Varun plays with Karthik for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Earlier this year, Varun also made his international debut for the Indian cricket team.

Varun Chakravarthy came into the limelight after the Kings XI Punjab signed him for a whopping 8.4 crore for IPL 2019. However, Varun did not get enough chances to showcase his talent. Later, the Kolkata Knight Riders signed him for 4 crores after a bidding war with Royal Challengers Bangalore. Varun emerged as a match-winner for the Kolkata-based franchise.

The mystery spinner played 13 matches and picked up 17 wickets. Varun CV also won his maiden IPL Man of the Match award after picking up five wickets in a match against the Delhi Capitals. Since IPL 2020 happened in the United Arab Emirates, and the Gulf nation will host ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Dinesh Karthik feels Varun will be the player to watch out for.

“My choice is a guy called Varun Chakravarthy. I feel he’s got something really special in him. If India goes all the way, I can promise you this boy that I’m speaking about will have played a major role in them moving forward in this tournament. Remember the name ‘Varun Chakravarthy’,” Karthik said on ICC digital show when asked to predict the best bowler of the ICC T20 WC 2021.

Varun Chakravarthy has taken 2 wickets in 3 T20I matches for India

While Dinesh Karthik expects Varun CV to make a big impact in ICC T20 World Cup 2021, it is still not confirmed if Varun will play for India in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The BCCI have not declared the Indian squad for the tournament yet.

So far, Varun has played only three T20I matches. Hence, it will be interesting to see if he gets a chance to play in the T20 World Cup.
