They finished the first phase of the tournament with a defeat against Punjab Kings as Rahul, Gayle and Harpreet Brar aided in the Red army achieving a decent 179. Bangalore came an early cropper as Riley Meredith fired a warning shot by removing Padikkal early. However, a stand between Kohli and Patidar saw Bangalore stitch a stiff resistance. That is when Harpreet Brar pulled off the performance of his life to claim Kohli, De Villiers and Maxwell to leave the Challengers reeling.
