Rajasthan Royals set to sign Rassie van der Dussen as Ben Stokes’ replacement

The Rajasthan Royals have lost multiple overseas players due to injury in IPL 2021. First, Jofra Archer became unavailable and then Ben Stokes injured himself in the match against the Punjab Kings. Just a few days ago, Liam Livingstone pulled out of IPL 2021, citing bio-bubble fatigue. To make up for the lost overseas stars, RR have likely decided to sign South African batsman Rassie van der Dussen.

According a report by Netwerk24, the Rajasthan Royals have called up Rassie van der Dussen, and the South African batsman will undergo a fitness test on Monday. He will likely link up with the Jaipur-based franchise if he clears the fitness test. It is pertinent to note that the Rajasthan Royals already have South African stars David Miller and Chris Morris in their team.

Rassie van der Dussen could bat in the middle order for the Royals. The Jaipur-based franchise needs a solid option in the middle order who could hold one end and allow the others to play their natural attacking game.

Rassie was recently in action during the series between Pakistan and South Africa. The Proteas batsman seemed to be in great touch during the white-ball games. If the Rajasthan Royals indeed sign him, he could make his IPL debut soon.

The Rajasthan Royals currently hold the last position on the points table

Although they have made changes to their team, the Rajasthan Royals continue to be at the last position on the standings. Last year, they attained the eighth spot in the 2020 edition of the IPL. This year, they have won only one of their first four matches.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore beat them by ten wickets in their last outing. The Royals will take the field again at Wankhede Stadium tomorrow night when they lock horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders. It will be exciting to see if the Royals rope in Rassie van der Dussen as Stokes’ replacement.
