As per reports, Punjab Kings are set to replace their skipper for the upcoming season. Mayank Agarwal is likely to leave and Shikhar Dhawan is all set to replace him. On that note, here, we take a look as Twitter reacts to reports that Shikhar Dhawan will replace Mayank Agarwal as Punjab Kings captain.

Reports claim Shikhar Dhawan will replace Mayank Agarwal as Punjab Kings captain

When Shikhar Dhawan was purchased by Punjab Kings, many thought it was a bright move. With him and Mayank at the top, the team had a solid opening combination. However, the team had to face the problem of playing Jonny Bairstow out of position. In order to fix this, Mayank had to make the move to the middle order. This did not yield dividends as Mayank could not contribute well.

The Karnataka batter has had a tough run in domestic cricket. He has also dropped out of Team India. Now, Punjab Kings is set to replace him as the skipper. It could be an interesting move as Mayank, in form, will be a terrific cricketer. On the other hand, the team might also be thinking of the combinations they can field if there is no compulsion to have Mayank in the XI. Releasing him would give the franchise a hefty purse, which would help them improve the other areas of the squad.

Twitter reacts to the news

Meanwhile, Twitter was attentive to reports from IPL amidst the ICC T20 World Cup. Mayank is a popular name and him being replaced has come as a bit of a surprise. Notably, Punjab Kings parted ways with Anil Kumble a few weeks ago. Hence, in all likelihood, PBKS will enter IPL 2023 with new men at the helm of affairs. Here is how Twitter reacted to this news on Wednesday:
