India and Bangladesh will be involved in a two-match Test series. The first game will happen from December 14th. While KL Rahul will lead the squad in Rohit Sharma’s absence, Cheteshwar Pujara will be his deputy. Here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Cheteshwar Pujara is named vice captain for the Indian Test Team.
An important Test for India
India will be without the services of Rohit Sharma for the first Test against Bangladesh. In the second ODI, the skipper suffered a thumb injury which forced Rohit to return back to India. Now that he is not fit, he is not available for selection. KL Rahul will lead the men in blue instead.
For India, it will be interesting to see how they go about their business against Bangladesh. They were poor in the ODIs and this will be at the back of their mind. Moreover, Bangladesh is a fine squad at home and with game changers like Shakib Al Hasan, the team cannot be taken lightly. With respect to World Test Championship, too, India has to win this series to give themselves a solid chance.
Twitter reacts as Cheteshwar Pujara named vice captain
Meanwhile, interestingly, Cheteshwar Pujara was named as KL Rahul’s deputy. A few tournaments ago, Pujara was dropped from the Indian Team. It is after his productive stint in the County that Pujara got his chance back in the squad. Even now, his place in the team is not guaranteed. With Shubman Gill also in the team, it would have been doubtful if Pujara would play. However, now that Rohit is injured, Gill will open the batting and hence, Pujara will surely get his chance at No.3. There were other options such as Rishabh Pant and R Ashwin whom the team could have considered, though. Here is how Twitter reacted in this regard:
Pujara VC when his place in the 11 is not guaranteed? https://t.co/wuoqtdojJA

the list of unexplained goes longer as Cheteshwar Pujara is made vice-captain. Has this appointment been made by Chetan Sharma, Rahul Dravid, or the party?

Why would they name Pujara VC? He was literally off the team a few months ago. They made Pant VC in T20Is, which is his worst format, but they won't make Pant VC in Tests where he has become a proven match winner. Ridiculous stuff. https://t.co/8Bdps0o4ZK

What more has @ashwinravi99 to achieve in test cricket that leadership role still evades him. Surely the brightest cricketing mind of his generation https://t.co/qDepAG9RXi

This is so laughable now. How are you not making your best test batsmen atleast a Vice Captain knowing that he is a keeper also.
AdvertisementUnreal agenda against Rishabh Pant now. This is not how you treat a champion player @BCCI 👎#BANvIND https://t.co/CPEvzS42oI
