The Mumbai Indians have had their worst start to an IPL season in the year 2022. The five-time champions have suffered six consecutive losses in IPL 2022 so far.
Many fans feel bowling is their weakness, but the batting and bowling departments of MI have not fired in unison this year, which has been a big reason for the team’s defeats.
Speaking of MI’s squad, here’s a list of one benched player from other nine teams who could have been a game-changer for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022.
1. CSK – Rajvardhan Hangargekar
As of Match 28 of IPL 2022, India U-19 star Rajvardhan Hangargekar has not received his maiden IPL cap. He is a top-class pace-bowling all-rounder but is warming the benches at CSK this year.
2. DC – Chetan Sakariya could have helped Mumbai in 2022
Chetan Sakariya made his international debut after an impressive IPL season with RR last year. However, the left-arm pacer is on the benches of Delhi Capitals this year.
3. GT – Alzarri Joseph
Caribbean pacer Alzarri Joseph has been a match-winner for Mumbai in the past. He is benched at GT but could have made a difference for MI.
4. KKR – Mohammad Nabi could have been game-changer for Mumbai in 2022
MI tried Tim David as a finisher but he failed in both games. An experienced player like Mohammad Nabi would not have played the finisher’s role but also given four economical overs of off-spin to MI.
5. LSG – Shahbaz Nadeem’s experience would have helped Mumbai in 2022
Murugan Ashwin has been the main spinner for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022. He has not received much backing, and an experienced campaigner like Shahbaz Nadeem would have made a lot of difference for MI.
6. PBKS – Rishi Dhawan could have won more matches for Mumbai in 2022
Pace-bowling all-rounder Rishi Dhawan was in the form of his life earlier this year in domestic tournaments. Having played for MI in the past, Dhawan would have been a great addition to the Mumbai squad in 2022.
7. RR – Obed McCoy
Caribbean fast bowler Obed McCoy is a wicket-taking option in T20 cricket. MI could have given chances to him instead of Daniel Sams if he was in their squad.
8. RCB – Jason Behrendorff
Another player who has represented MI in the past to feature on this list is Royal Challengers Bangalore’s left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff. The Aussie pacer could have formed a great combination with Jasprit Bumrah.
9. SRH – Kartik Tyagi
Former India U-19 star Kartik Tyagi made a name for himself with his excellent performances for the Rajasthan Royals. Tyagi’s pace could have troubled the opposition batters if he was playing for MI instead of warming the benches at SRH.
