“Oh captain, my captain,” Indian fans react in appreciation for Rohit Sharma as he asked security guards not to hurt the kid who breached security to meet him

A kid ran onto the ground to meet Rohit Sharma in the middle of an India Vs Zimbabwe game at MCG yesterday

Yesterday when a T20 World Cup game was going on between India and Zimbabwe in a packed MCG with 82 thousand people watching in the stadium, a kid ran onto the ground to meet the Indian captain Rohit Sharma as he was a big fan and wanted to shake hands with the skipper.

The security guards immediately ran towards the kid and before the kid could get to Rohit Sharma, the security guards got to him. It was a minor security breach, but a kind gesture by Rohit won the hearts of one and all present in the stadium watching the game.

The kid was a teenager and Rohit understood that he breached the security only because of his enthusiasm and nothing else. So he told the guards to make sure that the kid wasn’t harmed or hurt in any way whatsoever when he was taken out of the ground.

Generally, when security is breached during international games, there is an official complaint registered against the person. But in this case, it was a kid trying to somehow get to his favorite player and Rohit wanted to ensure that no harm was done to the kid because his intention of running onto the ground wasn’t wrong.

Indians fans were full of appreciation for Rohit Sharma for his kind gesture

Later after the game, a picture of Rohit’s conversation with the security guards went viral on twitter and the Indian fans, who were not present in the stadium during the game, saw the picture and reacted to it. A lot of fans were full of appreciation for Rohit for such a kind gesture towards the kid.

However, despite Rohit’s request to the guards not to hurt the kid, the stadium authorities did register a complaint against the kid and he was eventually fined a huge amount of Australian dollars which equated to about 6.5 lac INR. The fine was paid by the parents of the kid.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
