New Zealand Pacer Hamish Bennett Retires From All Formats Of Cricket

After Ross Taylor, one more veteran New Zealand player has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. Experienced Kiwi pacer Hamish Bennett has clarified that the ongoing 2021-22 season will be his last. Bennett played one Test, 19 ODI matches and 11 T20I matches for the New Zealand cricket team.

Talking about his international career, Bennett remained wicketless and scored four runs in the only Test of his career. His first and last Test appearance for the New Zealand cricket team came against the Indian cricket team at Ahmedabad in 2010.

Bennett made his ODI debut against the Bangladesh cricket team in Mirpur in 2010. But his T20I debut took place 10 years later in 2020 against the Indian cricket team. Bennett made a surprise comeback to the white-ball teams of the New Zealand squad for the home series against the Indian cricket team in 2020.

His last ODI appearance came against the Indian cricket team in February 2020, while his last T20I game was against the Bangladesh cricket team in Mirpur which happened last year.

Apart from playing for the New Zealand cricket team, Hamish Bennett represented Canterbury and Wellington in domestic cricket. He did not play for any major franchises, but Bennett did a decent job in domestic cricket. Here’s what he was quoted as saying by NZC while announcing his retirement:

“When I started out as a young kid bowling in the nets in Timaru, I never dreamed I would have gone on to enjoy the career that I’ve had. I’ve been so fortunate to work and play alongside so many great players, captains and coaches and I’d like to thank every one of them for their support over the years.”

Bennett will retire from cricket as a player and start a new innings in his life, seeking coaching opportunities.
