Vivianne Miedema scored four goals and the Netherlands thrashed Zambia 10-3 to open the Olympic women’s football tournament on Wednesday. Barbra Banda scored all three for the African side, a gallant effort, but in vain.
Miedema is the all-time leading goal scorer in the Women’s Super League, as well as the top career scorer for her national side. She went on to score goals in the 9th, 15th, 29th and 59th minutes respectively.
However, Brazil too had a little goal-scoring match-clinching a 5-0 win over China Women. Marta, a six-time FIFA Player of the Year, became the first player to score in five straight Olympics and her brace helped Brazil beat China 5-0 on Wednesday in the women’s soccer tournament.
After both teams clinching crucial victories in emphatic style it’ll be a tough battle between the two nations.
