Chennai Super Kings book their berth in the IPL final after staggering performance over Gujarat Titans

Chennai Super Kings thumped Gujarat Titans by 15 runs in the Qualifier 1 to become the first team to reach the final of the tournament. They batted and bowled exceptionally well and outclassed the defending champions to defeat them for the first time in history.

However, during the game, an incident had many different reactions. During the second innings, CSK pacer Matheesha Pathirana went off the field for around 10 minutes and for him to bowl he needed to spend some time in the middle to bowl his over.

But as entered the field, Dhoni handed the ball straightway but the umpires intervened in between and said that he couldn’t bowl till he spends time in the middle. However, at that time MS Dhoni used his presence of mind and engaged umpires in discussions.

Ms Dhoni held umpires for talks and CSK players slowed down the game which saw Matheesha Pathirana spending around 5 mins on the field and the bowl was immediately given to him. The skipper was criticised by commentators as well.

“Dhoni using his presence to full effect, luring the umpires into a 4-minute discussion causing time to run out for Pathirana to bowl after an extended break off the field. Umpires laughing over the incident rather than taking control of the situation is not good enough.”

Chennai Super Kings will be next seen in action during the final of the league on Sunday (28th May).
