It was a disappointing day for West Indies on Saturday. They lost their Super Sixes game to Scotland, thereby, ending their campaign. Thus, they will not take part in the upcoming ODI World Cup. After this result, Gautam Gambhir had a bold take on the situation. Here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Gautam Gambhir says West Indies can become the No.1 team in world cricket.
West Indies will not be a part of ODI World Cup 2023
The West Indian squad has actually been struggling in recent years. Last year, they failed to qualify for the Super 12 of the 2022 T20 World Cup. This was after they had a terrible outing in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Now, they won’t be a part of the 2023 ODI World Cup, a competition that they have won twice.
It is surprising that this is happening despite West Indies having a good pool of talent. They have some cricketers who are lead players for some top T20 franchises. However, all of it has not resulted in something important for the nation. They have also had issues with many players, who now do not play for West Indies.

On the back of their loss to Scotland, Gambhir made a bold prediction that West Indies could become the No.1 Team in world cricket again. Considering their recent form, it is looking unlikely, at least in the near future. However, back in 2015, England also suffered a similar fate of being out of form and they came back to win the ODI World Cup at home in 2019. The fans of West Indies will hope for something similar. Meanwhile, here is a look at how Twitter reacted to Gautam Gambhir’s statement about West Indian cricket:
May be Dhoni will have to go and coach them 😉
