Rohit Sharma ended his long wait for his maiden overseas hundred in the longest format of the game. The right-handed batsman had scored centuries outside India in the ODI and T20I formats, but in the Test format, he would get off to good starts and lose his wicket. Generally, conditions outside India are tough to bat on, especially in the SENA countries.
But Rohit Sharma has looked in excellent touch in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship series against the England cricket team. The Indian opener has shown how he can bat well in the English conditions in red-ball cricket as well.
Rohit Sharma became the first visiting opener to smash a hundred on English soil in all three formats
Indian opener Rohit Sharma recorded his maiden Test hundred on English pitches at the Kennington Oval today. With that century, he became the first-ever batsman from visiting countries to score a hundred in Tests, ODIs and T20Is on English soil while opening the innings.
In 2019, Rohit smashed multiple centuries in England during the Cricket World Cup. One year before that, Rohit had recorded a hundred in the shortest format of the game against the England cricket team on their own home soil.
Fans celebrated the century at Kennington Oval with some special tweets
The Indian fans patiently waited to see Rohit Sharma celebrate his first overseas Test hundred. Now that the wait was over, they shared some special tweets. The Hitman brought up his century in style by smashing a six. After an impressive ton Rohit perished for 127.
His opening partner KL Rahul has Test and ODI centuries as an opener on English soil. In the T20I format, he had scored a century as the number three batsman. Hence, the Indian fans were delighted after knowing this statistic. Here are some of the best Twitter reactions to the century by Rohit.
