“Max Verstappen hit a last ball 6,” Rohit Sharma comes up with a cricketing analogy of Abu Dhabi GP

It was a race which turned around in the last minutes with Verstappen going ahead of Lewis Hamilton

The whole world was invested in the Abu Dhabi Formula One GP yesterday and the internet was flooded with tweets, with various sports personalities talking about the race, including the newly appointed Indian captain Rohit Sharma as well.

It was a race full of controversies, as it dramatically turned around in the last minutes with Max Verstappen going past Lewis Hamilton under unusual circumstances on the back of some very debatable decsions taken by the officials, which a large section of the F1 fans didn’t agree to.

Rohit Sharma summed up the race in cricketing terms as he tweeted that the situation got to a point where the player on strike had to hit a 6 off the very last ball of the match and he actually ended up hitting the ball out of the park.

However, the turnaround of the race was even more remarkable that Max Verstappen simply putting in an extraordinary effort at the end. If it was not for the questionable calls made at the end, no amount of effort could have taken Verstappen ahead of Hamilton in the race.

The England fast bowler Tymal Mills, who was also someone watching the race closely, quoted Rohit’s tweet and said it was not a situation where 6 runs were needed off 1 ball. It was a situation where 13 runs were needed off 1 ball and the game was done and dusted without a mistake or without some twisting of rules.

It was as if a bowler bowled a high full toss on the last ball, but the ball was slightly below the waist and was still legal. A six was hit and then the ball was declared illegal, giving the batsman another ball and a free hit, bringing the equation down to 6 off 1 and then the batsman won it.

Analogy of Tymal Mills was more relatable than the anology of Rohit Sharma

One would have to say that the the cricketing anology of Mills was more relatable to the scenario than the analogy of Rohit who made a simple anology based on the last minute turnaround. However, the way all the cricketers were invested in the race was a testimony to the fact that the popularity of F1 racing has gone through the roof in the recent times.

Rohit Sharma is somone who is a keen watcher of other sports, apart from Formula One as well. He is a big fan of Real Madrid, a multiple time Football Champions League winner and one of the top teams in the Spanish Football top division, La Liga.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
