“Look at Sachin Tendulkar, he had to play 6 World Cups to win one ICC trophy” – Ravi Shastri opens up his view on India’s chances in WTC Final and ICC ODI World Cup 2023

Team India have long been criticized for not showcasing their prowess when it comes to the ICC events. Although they have been churning out positive results in bilateral series over the opponents, they haven’t been able to bring the best out of themselves in the marquee events.

It has been over a decade since Team India last won the ICC trophy. The last time when India won the ICC title was back in 2013 as the-then MS Dhoni and Co beat England in England to win the Champions Trophy.

Since then, India struggled to produce a spark in the marquee events and have often been on the receiving end. India’s major heartbreak moment came in T20 World Cup 2014 when they lost to Sri Lanka in the final.

India reached the next final of the ICC event in the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship. However, they surrendered at the hands of New Zealand in the final showdown. Team India will be playing two main events later this year.

Team India have qualified for the ICC World Test Championship Final for the second time as they will lock horns with the Australian cricket team from June 7 to 11 at The Oval, with June 12 set as the reserve day.

India will be playing in the ICC ODI World Cup tournament which is slated to be held in India in the October-November window later this year. The marquee event is going to be held entirely in India for the first time.

While speaking to SportsYaari, Ravi Shastri had a surprising take on Team India’s chances in the two ICC events by citing Sachin Tendulkar played six World Cups and that he managed to win one in 24 years.

Look at Sachin Tendulkar. He had to play six World Cups to win one ICC trophy. 6 World Cups means 24 years. And on his last World Cup, he won. Look at Lionel Messi. Classic example that is. I mean how long he has been playing. And when he started winning, he won the Copa America, and the the World Cup and scored in the final as well. So you have to wait. It will rain,” Ravi Shastri said, while speaking to SportsYaari.
