Last night’s game against CSK was a bit of a roller coaster ride for young Priyam Garg. He made a massive mistake just as he came to the crease as he ran Kane Williamson out. It was not totally Garg’s fault as Williamson was asking him to go for a very tight single which was not there, but Garg’s mistake was that he was watching the ball rather than telling Williamson loud and clear to stay back in his crease.
It was only after Williamson went half-way through the pitch that he realized Garg was not moving from his position at all, but it was too late by then for Williamson to turn and get back to his crease as the fielder at the square leg position had already collected the ball and had thrown it back to the CSK keeper MS Dhoni who took the bails off.

It seemed as if Priyam Garg’s mistake was going to cost SRH big as Williamson was one of their key players and after Warner’s dismissal, the onus was on him to get SRH to a respectable total.
CSK was right at top once Williamson got run out, but that’s where Garg came to the party and put on an exhibition of batsmanship against a very experienced CSK attack.
The 19-year old didn’t try to slog the ball and played only conventional cricketing shots, but he still scored runs at such a high tempo that SRH managed to cross the score of 160 despite being in a position where even 140 seemed far-fetched at one stage.
When Garg got back to the pavilion having scored his maiden IPL fifty, Kane Williamson told him not to worry about the run out and also congratulated him on scoring a match defining half-century.
“It felt really bad when he got run-out. He was a set batsman. That he was run-out was a mistake, but everything went alright after that. When I went back to the dugout, he said to me ‘Don’t worry mate, forget about it. You’ve batted really well’, Garg said while talking to IPL’s official website at the end of the game.
