2 IPL records MS Dhoni might break before he retires

MS Dhoni is a legend when it comes to Team India or in the Indian Premier League. When you take all the captains in IPL 2008, MS Dhoni is still the only man to be still captaining a squad. However, IPL 2023 could as well be his last. On that note, here, we take a look at two IPL records MS Dhoni might break before he retires.

1) Most runs as captain in IPL – 4881 by Virat Kohli

MS Dhoni currently has 4556 runs as a captain in the IPL. Since Virat Kohli is not the captain anymore, MSD has a good chance to overtake Virat on this list by the end of IPL 2023. For context, as a skipper, Rohit Sharma has scored 3674 runs, till now.

While the likes of Virat and Rohit batted at the top of the order, in MS’ case, it was mostly in the lower middle order. Despite this, he has got great numbers and that shows the impact he had with his displays on the performance of the team. Dhoni was actually in decent touch in IPL 2022. If he can replicate that next season, he could surely become the skipper with the most runs scored in the history of IPL.

2) The first player to hit 200 sixes for Chennai Super Kings

MS Dhoni is a monster when it comes to big hits. At his peak, he scored them regularly and even when he went past his prime, MSD still produced those massive hits. Ahead of IPL 2023, he has increased his muscle strength and the power game is likely to be in the picture.

Currently, MSD has 199 sixes for CSK. If he gets one more in IPL 2023, he would be the first person to score 200 sixes for the four-time champions. It would be difficult for any other cricketer wearing the yellow jersey to cross this number in the near future.
