IPL 2020 is underway in the United Arab Emirates as the cricket fans have got to witness some thrilling encounters in the league over the last few days. IPL 2020 began on 19th September with a classic game between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings.
The IPL 2019 runners-up avenged their loss in the grand finale to the defending champions at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium of Abu Dhabi. Apart from that, there have been two tied matches in IPL 2020. The Delhi Capitals defeated the Kings XI Punjab in the first Super Over, whereas the Royal Challengers Bangalore edged the Mumbai Indians in the second one.
The likes of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Shane Watson are yet to fire in IPL 2020. However, here’s a look at the one surprise performer from each franchise in IPL 2020.
RR – Rahul Tewatia
Nobody in their wildest dreams would have expected Rahul Tewatia to turn the match against Kings XI Punjab upside down by hitting six sixes in seven balls. He took 30 runs off Sheldon Cottrell’s over, and then hit a maximum off Shami’s delivery.
Besides, Tewatia also picked up 3 wickets against the Chennai Super Kings, making him the top surprise performer of IPL 2020.
KXIP – Mayank Agarwal
The Kings XI Punjab raised many eyebrows when they decided to drop Chris Gayle from the playing XI and go with KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal as their two openers.
Agarwal has outshone Rahul in IPL 2020 so far, hitting one century against the Rajasthan Royals. The right-handed batsman has the Orange Cap on his head at the moment.
CSK – Sam Curran
Sam Curran was not expected by many fans to get a place in the Chennai Super Kings playing XI, forget about him being the team’s top all-rounder in IPL 2020.
The Englishman has made the most out of the opportunities that he has received this season, picking up five wickets and scoring 51 runs in four matches.
DC – Marcus Stoinis
Marcus Stoinis did not have an eventful IPL campaign last year with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was bought by the Delhi Capitals in the IPL Auction 2020.
This signing proved to be a decisive one for Delhi as Stoinis helped them win their first game against the Kings XI Punjab. Stoinis has scored 69 runs and picked up two wickets in three games.
KKR – Shivam Mavi
Another player who had an off season last year but is looking in prime touch in IPL 2020 is the Kolkata Knight Riders’ upcoming fast bowler Shivam Mavi.
The uncapped player has picked up four wickets in three matches for KKR. He is looking extremely consistent in IPL 2020.
MI – Saurabh Tiwary
The Mumbai Indians shocked everyone by including Saurabh Tiwary in their playing XI for the first two matches. Ishan Kishan was nursing an injury, which is why MI had to pick Tiwary in the XI.
The southpaw did not disappoint the team management as he scored 63 runs in two games and was the top scorer for MI against CSK. R
RCB – Devdutt Padikkal
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have a solid batting lineup in IPL 2020, and the fact that they have done well in the tournament despite Virat Kohli’s poor form signifies the aforementioned statement.
Youngster Devdutt Padikkal has opened the innings for RCB and is their second highest run-getter with 111 runs in 3 matches.
SRH – T Natarajan
T Natarajan played six matches for the Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2017, but he could scalp only two wickets. He returned to the league this year as a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad.
So far, Natarajan has been the most impressive fast bowler for the Orange Army, with five wickets in four matches to his name.
