India set to host 4 world tournaments in next 10 years as ICC names host countries for next cycle

Apart from 2023 ODI World Cup, India has been given the hosting rights of 3 more ICC events

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the host countries for the next 8 global events to be played in the next 8 years, and there are no surprises that India has been given the hosting rights of three of those events.

India will be hosting the T20 World Cup of 2026 with the neighbouring country Sri Lanka, the Champions Trophy of 2029 alone and the ODI World Cup of 2031 with the neighbouring country Bangladesh. India is the only country that has managed to win the hosting rights of as many as three events in the next global event cycle of ICC.

India, apart from these three events, are also the host of the ODI World Cup 2023 which means they will be hosting a total of 4 world events in the next 10 years.

Another noticeable announcement is that Pakistan has also been given the hosting rights of a global event, that is the Champions Trophy of 2025. This is a huge breakthrough for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), given the fact that not too many big teams have travelled to Pakistan on a consistent basis in the last decade or so because of security issues.

It will have to be analysed at the time of the event if the security arrangements in the country are up to the mark, but at this point of time, the hosting rights have been given to Pakistan and it’s after a long gap that Pakistan fans will see a global event on their soil.

5 continents will be involved in hosting ICC events in the next 10 years

Apart from the Asian countries, the African, the American, the European and the trans-tasman countries have also been given the hosting rights of one global event each. While the ODI World Cup of 2027 will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, the T20 World Cup of 2030 will be hosted by England, Scotland and Ireland together.

West Indies and the United States of America (USA) have been chosen as the hosts of the T20 World Cup of 2024 and it’s really important for ICC to make that particular tournament a successful one as the American market can be really fruitful from the point of view of globalizing the game.

Australia and New Zealand will be the co-hosts of the T20 World Cup of 2028. Australia is actually going to host the T20 World Cup of next year as well, whose starting date was already announced earlier today.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
