“India have done nothing since winning the 2011 World cup in White-ball format,” Michael Vaughan hits out at Team India on their below-par performance in recent ICC Tournaments

India suffered 8th consecutive loss in the ICC tournaments.

Former English cricketer Micheal Vaughan has lashed out at the Indian Cricket Team for their poor performance in the ICC tournaments. He said that the Men in Blue have done nothing since winning the 2011 World cup in White-ball format and are the most underperforming team.

India suffers 8th consecutive loss in the ICC tournament

Following India’s 10-wicket loss in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 against England, they have come under a lot of scrutiny. It was their 8th consecutive defeat in the ICC tournament. The Men in Blue have done so well in the bilateral series and there are a lot of speculations about why they have failed in the multinational tournaments.

It’s fair to say that they have failed to handle the pressure in the knockouts, which has been one of the main reasons behind their poor outings in ICC events. Since winning the champions trophy in 2013, India has failed to win a single ICC trophy. They lost T20 World Cups in 2014, 2016, 2021 and 2022 followed by Cricket World Cups in 2015 and 2019 and World Test Championship in 2021.

Players have failed to step up on the big occasion and many have criticised the team for choking in the big matches. In the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup against England, apart from Virat Kohli (50) and Hardik Pandya (63) every other batter fail as India could manage only 168 runs.

It was expected that India would give a tough fight but they had no answers to the onslaught by English openers. Alex Hales and Jos Buttler took Indian bowlers to the cleaners and smashed them all over the park for their unbeaten 170 runs stand and made sure that they win the game by 10 wickets.

“Since winning 50 over World Cup what have they done? Nothing. India are playing a white-ball game that is dated and have done for years. India are the most under-performing white-ball team in history. Every player in the world who goes to the Indian Premier League says how it improves their game but what have India ever delivered?”

Vaughan then went on to question India’s approach against England and said: “I am just staggered by how they play T20 cricket for the talent they have. They have the players, but just do not have the right process in place. They have to go for it. Why do they give the opposition bowlers the first five overs to bed in?”
