Indonesia started as the favorite to win this match because they are the most successful nation in the badminton tournament’s history, having won the championship 14 times. China is behind them with 10 titles, while Malaysia has won it five times. Japan and Denmark took the prize home once each.
Before the 2022 edition of this mega event, India had never advanced beyond the quarterfinals of the tournament. But this year, the team was quite strong, and the players were in form. They qualified for the semifinals with a win against five-time champions Malaysia in the quarterfinals.
India already made history by securing a medal for the first time, but the Indian men were not satisfied with a bronze medal. They defeated the 2016 champions Denmark and qualified for the final of the competition, and in the final, they overcame 14-time champions Indonesia.
While the quarterfinals and semifinals were close, India blanked Indonesia 3-0 in the final and shocked the Indonesian fans. Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, and Kidambi Srikanth won the singles and doubles matches, completing a hat-trick of wins and securing the trophy for the Indian team.
