“I Do Not Believe That There Was A Need For Break”- RP Singh Feels That Rohit Sharma Should Have Played In The T20I Series Against South Africa

IND vs SA Live Update: The Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma, had a horrible run in the Indian Premier League 2022. They ended up with the wooden spoon for this season. But the more troubling aspect was that he was not in good batting form, as he fell short of scoring 300 runs in the Indian Premier League for just the second time since 2008. Rohit’s choice to sit out the Twenty20 International series against South Africa has been called into doubt by RP Singh, a former Indian fast bowler.

It has been decided that the Indian captain and other top players, including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami, would not take part in the Twenty20 International series that India will play against South Africa. In the most recent iteration of the Indian Premier League (2022), which just came to a close, Rohit’s poor run of form manifested itself as a total of only 268 runs scored in 14 games, with not a single half-century to his record.

IND vs SA Live Update: RP Singh wanted Rohit Sharma to be part of the T20I series

RP Singh thinks that Rohit has every right to take a break from the game. Yet, he has extra obligations as the captain of the team, and he should be leading his side in the series.

“I believe that he ought to have participated in the series. His current preoccupation is whether or not to take a break. It is dependent on the level of exhaustion that he is feeling. However, I do not believe there was a need for a break at that time. He ought to have participated. It’s a long series,” RP Singh said to India TV.

You need game-changing players in the T20 format: RP Singh

The left-arm bowler said that the Indian captain hasn’t done well as of late, but he also stated that Rohit has delivered match-winning runs for Mumbai in the past and that he is capable of coming through with the goods even when he is having a rough stretch of form. He believes that a T20 squad needs players who are “match-winners,” or players who can give the team a spark via their performance.

“In the last few seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rohit has not scored more than 400 runs. There are a lot of other people who have reached the 400-run milestone as well. Even though his performances in the competition have been all over the place, he has been responsible for several decisive knocks in the past.

As a result, everyone saw that the fire in his batting was back. In the shortest format, you need players who can consistently win matches. Even if they have a few matches when they are on fire, the team is going to win those matches,” the former Indian bowler remarked.
