“Imagine what you both would do if India didn’t play cricket”, Ravichandran Ashwin shuts off a Sri Lankan journalist who said that he should have given his Man Of The Match award to Mominul Haque

During India‘s victory in the second Test against Bangladesh at Mirpur, Ravichandran Ashwin was a crucial contributor. India was in a bind after losing many key wickets, but Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer put together a match-winning partnership.

It all started when Ashwin had just come to the crease. Mominul Haque fumbled a routine catch at short leg, giving the all-rounder a life that he eventually made the most of. A Sri Lankan supporter took up the cause, tweeting asking Ashwin to “give over the Man of the Match award to Mominul Haque” and arguing that, except for the missed opportunity, India would have folded for only 89 runs. The Indian player gave the Sri Lankan fan a witty reply, asking him to picture himself in his current role if India didn’t play cricket.

The user wrote: “You should have handed this to Mominul Haque, Who dropped that dolly.. had he bagged it, India all out for 89 for sure..”

Ashwin replied: “Oh no ! I thought I blocked you, oh sorry that’s the other guy. what’s his name?? Yes Daniel Alexander that’s the name !! Imagine what you both would do if India dint play cricket.”

When Mehidy Hasan Miraz had India down by seven wickets, Ashwin and Iyer came in to bat. The Indian combination kept their cool and put up a match-winning unbroken partnership of 71 runs, helping India win the series against Bangladesh by a score of 2-0.

With the aid of four fours and a six, Ashwin promptly hit 31 off the last 34 runs to save Bangladesh from claiming their first Test victory over India.

Indeed, the outcome of the game was quite unpredictable. Mehidy Hasan Miraj and Shakib Al Hasan threatened to sweep the game away in the first half an hour after the restart, when they picked out three fast wickets and India needed 100 more to win with six wickets in hand. Mehidy Hasan will be the one who is most disheartened. This off-spinner played his heart out. He picked up where he left off in the evening, taking two more wickets to finish with a fifer (19-4-63-5) and give the home team a fighting chance to win.
