Rajasthan Royals won the game against Lucknow Super Giants by 24 runs to smoothen their path to the playoffs. Yuzvendra Chahal yet again played a crucial role in the game. Although he was expensive, he took the crucial wicket of Deepak Hooda. Hence, the Purple Cap came back to him after Wanindu Hasaranga had briefly won it. In this article, we take a look at Yuzvendra Chahal reveals the reason why he does not wear the Purple Cap.
Chahal reveals the reason why he does not wear the Purple Cap
Just around a year ago, Chahal was in poor form. He was struggling to pick wickets and at the same time, he was becoming a little expensive. The leggie was also dropped from Team India for the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, the last few months have been terrific for him.
In 13 games so far in IPL 2022, Chahal has accounted for 24 wickets. His economy of 7.7 has also been impressive. For the most part of the tournament, the Haryana cricketer has been the Purple Cap holder. However, interestingly, he revealed that he hardly wears it.
While speaking on ESPN Cricinfo, Chahal said, “I don’t wear the purple cap. I wear it only for an over each game when the broadcasters request me to. Because I have worn a cap just 15 or 20 times in my life. I just don’t wear caps. I respect the purple cap. But I just feel strange playing with a cap.”
An important member of Team India
India missed a trick by not selecting Chahal for the previous T20 World Cup. However, the player will be one of the first names on the flight to Australia later this year. Chahal has added many variations to his bowling and his ability to read the game situation is at its peak right now. His form might define the prospects of Team India in the upcoming tournaments.
