DRS in IPL 2022 is one thing that every team will look to master. If a captain, a wicket-keeper and the bowlers work as a well-oiled unit, the teams can overturn the wrong decisions well. Also, when batting, the batters, especially the non-striker, should be able to give his opinion quickly.
In the previous IPL seasons, the BCCI allowed the franchises to only have one unsuccessful review per innings. If the review was successful, they could go for more. However, if one review was unsuccessful, the franchise could not use DRS again in the innings.
Ahead of IPL 2022, the BCCI has made a slight change to that rule. Now, instead of one unsuccessful review per innings, the teams can have two unsuccessful reviews. Here is the new update from BCCI, as reported by Cricbuzz:
“In each innings, the number of reviews have been increased from one to two.”
How many successful DRS in IPL 2022 can a franchise take?
While there is a maximum limit of two unsuccessful reviews per innings in IPL this year, there is no limit on successful DRS as before. The teams can take as many reviews as they want if all are successful.
It will be interesting to see how this new rule impacts the game in IPL 2022. Apart from the DRS rule, there is a change in the catch rule also. If the batters change strike, while the ball was in the air before the catch, the change of strike will not be valid. New batter will take the strike.
“Upon a catch dismissal, irrespective of whether the batsmen have crossed or not the incoming batsman will take the strike, except if it’s the last ball of the over,” the BCCI informed all 10 franchises.
This year’s IPL season promises to be a little with the new rule changes in place for the competition.
